Lorraine’s journey into Allied Health and Mammography

Lorraine with a coworker — next to her favorite machine! Hologic, of course!

Lorraine started her career as a Mammography Technologist more than 10 years ago - starting in Colorado and currently residing in Florida. Now, as a traveler, she finds herself in the Atlanta suburbs working in a busy facility making a difference in the lives of women. Something we love to share about Lorraine is her enthusiasm for traveling and how she exercises the freedom to soak in everything around her. Let’s get to know her a bit!

How long have you been with Spire?

I started with Spire back in July of 2023 and made my way to Alpharetta in August. Time flies! It was a really simple process and my recruiter was really on top of everything. They made it easy. I love that they were able to get me placed at a facility that gave me a my preferred 4x10 shifts. I have plenty of time to build in a day of doing business and running around town to do other things. I can’t say enough good things about the process.

Tell us about your current assignment and what you love about the area

I really love Alpharetta. It’s a phenomenal, growing suburb of Atlanta and there is truly everything you need — shopping, walking trails, restaurants, and more. Plus, on the weekends, you can make it to the mountains or the beach with ease. Another great aspect of north Georgia I love is that it has a ton of waterfalls to check out and hike! When I first moved here it was the summer, so I brought my paddle board up from Florida and spent time on the Chattahoochee River. Now, I’m looking forward to checking out other parts of north Georgia - like Dahlonega.

Lorraine had a chance to check out so much of Georgia since she started her assignment last summer. Seen here enjoying nature, visiting the Gainesville Fall Festival, and hiking!

The facility is absolutely gorgeous! It’s busy and fast-paced, but everyone has a great attitude. The entire team was so warm, welcoming and were so thankful when I arrived. When I first started, it was only myself with one other traveler on the team, now we’re about half staff and half travelers. You know, I’ve experienced a lot of different teams, and it can be challenging in the women’s world, but I really can’t say enough about how amazing this team is. I’ve felt perfectly at ease ever since starting here.

Speaking of being at ease, the facility is absolutely gorgeous. They are fully outfitted with my preferred machines (Hologic). It makes a huge difference when you are in a facility with such wonderful technology! Another aspect I love is that there is absolute freedom to wear any color or pattern of scrubs you prefer. I love that I get to share my personality and individuality here — so no need to buy new scrubs just to match a certain color.

What advice would you give to other travelers in this city/facility?

I love the Atlanta area and everything it has to offer. I ended up renting an apartment here with two other travelers, so we only have to drive 20 minutes (most of the time less) to get to our facility from home. If you do choose to live further south, around Atlanta proper, you’re definitely going to run into loads of traffic. Since the area is growing at such a rapid pace, I think trying to stay close to your facility is a good call — we all know how much Atlanta is known for traffic!

A few of Anna’s favorite spots you need to check out:

Cactus Cantina Tacos & Tequila - Some of us girls like to go here after our shifts. Its so nice that Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs make for a great foodie area!

Big Creek Greenway - You're in the heart of the city, but feel like your miles away.

Chattahoochee National Recreational Area - All the trails around that area are gorgeous.

Espressos Coffee - This is the local coffee shop in Cumming I go to on my days off. They have great food they make in house, and great coffees and music.

If Lorraine’s story is inspiring you to take hold of your career, travel, or explore a similar assignment in the greater Atlanta area, we’d love to chat!
