Krystal G - Rockstar at Northside Hospital

One of the key aspects of travel nursing is working with and alongside staff at hospitals and other facilities among staff nurses. Travelers are not always quickly accepted as part of the greater team, though there are some instances where we see quite the opposite.

Thus, we're celebrating one of our Travelers -- Krystal G, MS RN at Northside Hospital in Georgia. Krystal is an experienced RN with many years of travel experience in different positions and across multiple teams.

Although a travel nurse, she was recently recognized with The Rockstar Award by the hospital team, so we took some time to catch up with her on this great achievement!

What was the award and who all were responsible for voting for you?

Krystal: The Award is called “The Rockstar Award” - it is voted for monthly. It is calculated by the patient surveys before discharging. The operations Manager, floor manager, and charge nurses are responsible for the voting.

What did that mean to you as a traveler?

Krystal: I love that travelers are nominated for the Awards. It made me feel valued and appreciated. Winning the award motivated me to consider a leadership position.

What sort of initiative did you take to be recognized for the award? Were you empowered by staff to take that initiative or does that come from within?

Krystal: I’m a very patient-centered person. I get to know my patients and what it takes to make their stay better. I’m also a people person. I’m constantly introducing myself to unfamiliar faces in the department to get to know everyone involved in the patients' care. My unit is a teaching unit for nursing students and nursing residents. I offered to precept when I’m working. This allows me to learn and perform well.

Also, I’m naturally a leader. I’ve traveled for 7 years and I’ve learned a lot of systems and learned the core principles of what’s expected in hospital culture.

Congrats to Krystal for such a great achievement!
